Estimates only
This calculator provides an estimate for general informational purposes only. It is not tax, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for your employer's payroll system or a licensed tax professional. Actual withholding depends on the W-4 you filed, your employer's payroll settings, pre-tax elections, and changes in federal or state law. Tax rules change — verify figures with the IRS and your state tax authority before making decisions. PaycheckClear is not affiliated with the IRS, the Social Security Administration, or any state government.
Actual withholding can differ
An employer withholds based on the W-4 you filed, its payroll system, the timing of your pay periods, supplemental wage rules, and any mid-year changes. The calculator estimates annual liability from annualized wages. A bonus, a raise, a job change, or a different W-4 can move the actual withholding away from the estimate even when the annual salary is the same.
State and local rules change
State brackets, standard deductions, local rates, and payroll contribution rates can change during the year. Each state page shows a verification date and any open verification item. Confirm the current rate with your state revenue department or local tax collector before relying on a state or local line.
